      That afternoon Moon Hee and I went to the stream again. I decided to tell her my plans, well, some of them at least. "You saw what happened this morning, the system cannot tell how high an aircraft is flying, and I cannot think of a solution to the problem either. Also, I don't think I want to.       She said nothing. I had expected that if she cared for me and worried about the danger, she would say it was impossible and try to stop me, but if she were a spy she would want to know my plans. At last she said, "Many Koreans try to escape from our country, usually to South Korea. Older people go to be with relatives who were parted from them during the war that split North and South, and young people go because South Korea is a much richer country. But it is dangerous. The De-Militarized Zone between us and South Korea is the most heavily fortified frontier in the world. The DMZ has armed guards and dog patrols on both sides, and a mine field in the middle, as a friend of mine discovered."
      "Discovered ?"
      "Yes, he was stationed there in the Winter and it was very cold. Every day he and his fellow soldiers would have to go a long way in the snow to cut down a tree for wood for a fire. There were many trees in the DMZ so one day they decided to go there, strictly against orders of course. Inside the DMZ my friend needed to relieve himself and as the snow was washed away he saw a metal spike sticking up out of the ground, the spike of an anti-personnel mine. He called to the other soldiers and they very carefully retraced their steps in the snow."
