SUMMARY
Nyariga Doone Women Association (DOWAN) would need an amount of
GH˘132,413.00 equivalent to US$35,787.29 to
finance the construction of a standard Craft/Vocational Centre at
Nyariga Doone.
The amount is required to purchase building materials as attached.
Members of the Association and the community shall meet the full
cost of unskilled labour, transport and
other expenditures for the completion of the project as per the
financial plan attached for your study.
This contribution in kind would translates into cash of GH˘13,241.30
or US$3,578.73 representing 10% of
total project cost.
We therefore expect donor support of GH˘119,171.70 (US$32,208.57).
The project is expected to be completed and commissioned within 6
months or 24 weeks when funds are
available.
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Basket weaving is one major source of income for women and creates
jobs for the people in Upper East Region
especially Bolgatanga Municipality and Nyariga in particular.
There is high demand for straw baskets both local and international
markets but we lack a standard Craft
Centre to accommodate its members. As a result of the absence of
standard infrastructure, the group lacks
the capacity and skills to produce to meet the demand of customers.
Apart from the Ghanaian Market, we are currently supplying baskets
to USA, Japan and Germany. Ref.
www.blessingbasketproject.org
However, we are constrained with capacity to introduce new designs,
styles and shapes of baskets that the
customers are demanding for, as a result of lack of craft centre
accommodation.
Apart from improving the crafts industry, the centre would also
serve as a vocational training and
community centre for other entrepreneurial skills (soap, pomade,
tye & dye facilities etc.) in Nyariga and
its surrounding villages.
OBJECTIVE/GOAL
The Nyariga Doone Craft/Vocational Centre would provide accommodation
and also serve as Rural Enterprise
Training Centre (RETC) for Socio-economic capacity building for
skills training of women and youth in craft
and general entrepreneurial skills, thus creating jobs and increasing
incomes to improve livelihoods.
This facility would also address the problems of young boys and girls
travelling to Southern Ghana in
search of jobs or opportunities to learn a trade and finally ends up
a Kayayees with its negative impacts.
