Profile

Nyariga Doone Women Association (DOWAN) is a non profit and non political organization.

Origins

The group was formed in 1993 with the name Nyariga Doone Mothers Club.

Objective

To create a conducive environment for women and youth to develop and operate their indigenous entrepreneurial skills to create sustainable jobs and wealth.

Achievements

Girl child and female education, Income generating activities (basket, soap, crop and livestock farming).

School

Nyariga-Doone Girls School was founded in September 1998 by Nyariga-Doone Women Association.

Future Plans

Construction of a standard Craft Centre and offices for The Association in Nyariga for Income generation activities and economic empowerment of women.

Organisation

We have put in place some organizational structures for effective management and group development.

Staff

Even though the ‘Association’ is an all women affair, the coordinator is a man and acts as facilitator, planner and a team leader.
